Liberal Government fixing dangerous roads in Armadale and Canning
WA Liberal Senator Linda Reynolds has welcomed an additional $313,000 federal funding announcement that will improve safety on three roads in Canning and Armadale.
Western Australia will receive $6.68 million to upgrade 35 roads with a history of crashes as part of the Federal Government’s Black Spot Programme 2017-18 funding round.
Senator Reynolds said a section of Rowley Road in Hilbert, the intersection at Bannister and Magnet roads in Canning Vale and the intersection at Ranford, Southern River and Balannup roads in Harrisdale would all be upgraded.
“I regularly travel along these roads and I know how dangerous they can be, which is why I’m delighted to see them included in the Black Spot Programme’s 2017-18 funding round,” she said.
“The Coalition Government is committed to making local roads safer and we know the benefit this investment will have on the community.
“On average, completed Black Spot road projects reduce fatalities and injuries by 30 per cent.”
The announcement comes on top of a $1.6 billion federal investment to Western Australian road and rail infrastructure, which will see the closure of Denny Avenue in Kelmscott, the extension of the Thornlie rail line through to Cockburn, and the construction of a bridge over Kwinana Freeway to connect Armadale and North Lake roads.
An additional $44.2 million was announced in the recent Federal Budget towards regional road projects to improve regional road safety across Australia.
